These ring forms used to connect iron cables strong enough to cut through the travertine stone. Locked with large screws onto a dozen iron poles, they have been out of use for over 30 years, when the caves were shut down for precarious working conditions, after decades of tragic incidents. The rings are now a part of a peaceful landscape in the area of Colle San Marco, Le Marche. Many of them have been inhabited by colonies of insects who, over the years, had built inside them their nests. A gaze through each of the rings opens towards fixed points of the surrounding area. The rings cannot be moved and each one of them appears as an optical instrument dedicated to one pair of views.
